It is worrying that some “individual of the year…” awards are now being gamed, and they are just a popularity contest that can be won by agencies with lots of staff all voting for a particular individual after the obligatory “please vote for XYZ” email does the rounds.

Anyone else feel the same or has experienced this? It is true you really can game anything – influence rankings (I saw this first-hand while CEO of Kred), “Best Seller” book lists and the like. Is anything real anymore – we have fake news now fake awards?

Is it up to the organiser of the award to audit the entries or do we just let this continue, and have these awards, and individual’s standings diminished as a result?
