Andrew appeared LIVE on BBC Scotland to discuss the rise of AI scams and how people can stay safe from these.

Have you set a family password to outsmart AI-powered cyber criminals? Yesterday, I joined Graham Stewart on BBC Radio Scotland to discuss just how urgent this has become. The legendary comedian Billy Connolly felt compelled to make a rare public statement, alerting his fans that fraudsters are using AI-generated voice and video clones to impersonate him and ask for money.

AI cloning technology is now so convincing that it can fool even the most vigilant among us. Over the past few years, I’ve seen firsthand how these threats are evolving, and I share with every audience, whether at conferences or in executive roundtables, that no one is immune.

In fact, the more senior your position, the greater your risk, which is why a simple, shared “team password” with your close colleagues is essential.

I’ve devoted an entire chapter (Chapter 15) in my book, Digitally Curious, to practical strategies for staying safe online in an era dominated by artificial intelligence.

The family password is a powerful tool to confirm identities and thwart social engineering scams, both in our personal and professional lives.

As we all learn to harness the benefits of AI, it’s clear that cyber criminals are already ahead of the curve, and protecting ourselves isn’t just a technical issue, but is now a human one.
