Andrew spoke at the Dive In Festival in London on the topic: “Mind the Gap: Skills for 21st Century Insurance – Do yours fit?”
He started off by addressing the Elephant in the Room at the Diversity and Inclusion event – the lack of diversity on the all-male panel. He brought up his “panel hack” story from 2015.
There are two “gaps” predicted for the workplace in the next 20 years: People and Skills. Demographics suggest that we cannot rely on Millennials and Generation Z alone: there are simply not enough of them to fill all the predicted roles.
The impact of technology and automation points to entirely new roles and skills being required. Should we be looking to attract new talent from less traditional backgrounds? How should you be preparing for this future?
This event set out the cases relating to the dual problem of people and skills and challenge the bias towards the expectation that young people have all the answers.

The Dive In Festival is an initiative of Lloyds, and it is helping insurance get fit for the future, highlighting the business case for diverse and inclusive workplaces and providing practical ideas and inspiration for how to bring about positive change.
Following the success of the Dive In festival in London, 2015 and 10 countries in 2016, this year will see events returning to global locations such as London, New York City, Zurich, and Bermuda, as well as new cities including Beijing, Perth, Melbourne, Leeds, and Mumbai, between 26-28 September 2017.
