Data uncovered by the Financial Times shows that almost $1 in every $10 spent on Uber is for food rather than car journeys.

This is an interesting stat and shows that they have started to diversify.

It also explains how cut-throat the food delivery market has become. In the UK there is Just Eat, Deliveroo, Hungry House just to name a few.

At my local restaurants, often I have to fight to get through the group of waiting delivery riders there to collect food.

More interesting is that more and more people are opting for home delivery from local restaurants and fast-food chains rather than dining out.

Is this a fad or is the local food service model about to fundamentally change?  In many cities I have seen a rush of delivery apps all competing with each other and I wonder if Amazon and Uber are about to spark consolidation in these markets.

Do you use any of these delivery services and has this become the norm for you?
